Adhesive transfer operates during galling

نویسندگان

چکیده

In order to reduce cobalt within the primary circuit of pressurised water reactors (PWR’s), wear-resistant steels are being researched and developed. particular interest is understanding galling mechanisms, an adhesive wear mechanism which particularly prevalent in PWR valves. Here we show that large shear stresses transfer occur during by exploiting 2 wt.% manganese difference between 304L 316L stainless steels, even at relatively low compressive 50MPa. Through these findings, mechanisms can be better understood, may help with development resistant steels.

Antioxidant defense response in a galling insect.

Herbivorous insect species are constantly challenged with reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated from endogenous and exogenous sources. ROS produced within insects because of stress and prooxidant allelochemicals produced by host plants in response to herbivory require a complex mode of antioxidant defense during insect/plant interactions. Some insect herbivores have a midgut-based defense aga...

Interfacial pH during mussel adhesive plaque formation.

Mussel (Mytilus californianus) adhesion to marine surfaces involves an intricate and adaptive synergy of molecules and spatio-temporal processes. Although the molecules, such as mussel foot proteins (mfps), are well characterized, deposition details remain vague and speculative. Developing methods for the precise surveillance of conditions that apply during mfp deposition would aid both in unde...

Transfer of visual motion information via graded synapses operates linearly in the natural activity range.

Synaptic transmission between a graded potential neuron and a spiking neuron was investigated in vivo using sensory stimulation instead of artificial excitation of the presynaptic neuron. During visual motion stimulation, individual presynaptic and postsynaptic neurons in the brain of the fly were electrophysiologically recorded together with concentration changes of presynaptic calcium (Delta[...

STN7 Operates in Retrograde Signaling through Controlling Redox Balance in the Electron Transfer Chain

Phosphorylation of the major photosynthetic light harvesting antenna proteins by STN7 kinase balances excitation between PSII and PSI. Phosphorylation of such abundant proteins is unique, differing distinctively from conventional tasks of protein kinases in phosphorylation of low abundance proteins in signaling cascades. Excitation balance between PSII and PSI is critical for redox homeostasis ...

Changes in elastic modulus of adhesive and adhesive-infiltrated dentin during storage in water.

The purpose of this study was to determine the elastic modulus of components at the resin-dentin interface with the use of an ultrasound device. Dentin slabs were obtained from freshly extracted bovine incisors shaped into a rectangular form. After demineralization, the dentin specimens were immersed in adhesives and polymerized. Adhesives were also polymerized and trimmed into the same shape a...
